CORE Premier at Climb Max helps to raise money for CCC

Friday evening 35 people came together to help support the CCC's efforts by attending a premier of Chuck Frybergers newest film CORE. The door proceeds and the raffle items helped us to raise $330.00 for the Rumbling Bald West Side Boulders Fund. A big thanks goes out to Dave Sharratt and Stewart Cowles for hosting this event in honor of the CCC. I also wanted to thank the generous folks at Misty Mountain, Mountains to Seas Marketing, Chuck Fryberger Films, and Mountain Hardware for donating prizes. A special thanks to Mountain Hardware Athelete Pat Goodman for generously providing his sound system and very special thanks to Pascal Robert who fixed our AV problems making it possible to show this movie. Thanks to all those who attended.

Frixtion raffle nets $560 for the boulders!

Thanks to Misty Mountain Threadworks and Matt Paden at Frixtion we've now got $560 more towards the Rumbling Bald boulders fund! With the matching $500, that means we met our $1000 summer goal. Sweet! Thanks to everyone who gave through Frixtion, and congrats to the lucky winners!

However, we're still a long way from getting the money back to the Access Fund so they can give it our to someone else who needs help securing some prime climbing real estate. Look for more special events in the future and if you have any ideas, please get in touch with one of the board members. We can't do this without your help.

The Fisheries and Wildlife Biologist for the US Forest Service has announced that all 2010 Seasonal Peregrine Closures have been lifted.

In other words, "CLIMB ON!"

Summer Matching - Help us put a $1000.00 towards the West Side Boulders Fund

Daniel Bochicchio recently donated $300.00 to the West Side Acquisition. Anthony Love offered to throw in $200. to make it an even $500.00.

If we can get 50 people to donate $10.00 or 100 people to donate $5.00, we can add another $1000.00 to the repayment fund.

Help us out if you can, Anthony sleeps better with every $1000 that we raise towards this project!

Lets get another grand in donations before the summer is finished!

Shortoff closure lifted

All of the climbing routes on Shortoff are now open. The US Forest Service has lifted the seasonal closure for peregrine falcon nesting. Closures at Looking Glass, Whitesides, Big Lost cove and NC Wall remain in effect.

LGO's Ed Maggert Slideshow raises $150.00 for the CCC

Ed Maggart's slideshow was a few weeks back. LGO had a fun crew of people who gobbled down the fresh cookies and cold beverages, and gathered to listen to Ed's travels across Bhutan, Mongolia, Nepal & Tibet during his fall sabbatical. The pictures and stories were fascinating, and it sounds like Ed encountered amazing people. We were particularly intrigued by the crew Ed met who hunt wolves with eagles!

See the press release below for more details. Make your voice heard! The state needs to understand the incredible climbing resources in this park and that we want to keep them open and open up more!

As part of the process to create a master plan for Chimney Rock State Park in the Hickory Nut Gorge, the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation will conduct a public planning session May 26 at the Lake Lure Town Hall.
