Kasia Pietras Interview
4 hours 41 min agoIf youre at all into the climbing scene in the south, youve probably heard of Kasia Pietras. My guess is if you havent - you will! This 21 year old, originally from Chicago, transplanted herself to Chattanooga to attend UTC and to be closer to some of the best climbing around. Kasia started climbing indoors at a young age and grew up competing on plastic. Over a decade later, she still enjoys the rush of competition and it motivates her to train and climb hard. She climbed her first 5.13 in 2005 and has been going strong since. Kasia currently spends a little more time bouldering than on routes, but its paid off for the ambitious climber, as she took the overall win in the Women's Open division at the 2009 Triple Crown. As much as she loves competition and striving to reach her own personal climbing goals, the apparent thing about Kasia is she just likes to get out there! She loves seeing new places and as much as she can, she does her part to ensure that these places will stay open for future climbers!

Urban Core Belay-a-thon raises funds for climbing team
4 hours 41 min agoThere was tons of energy and excitement as we walked into the Wall Crawlers gym this drizzly and cold Saturday. The 7th Annual Belay-a-thon put on by Urban Core climbing team - was in high gear as forty dedicated youth climbers from the Atlanta community hosted a fund raiser for their team. All proceeds went to help fund their upcoming summer camp and to help Haitian earthquake victims which sounded like a great cause to jump in and check out.
Adrenaline Climbathon Helps Boat Rock
4 hours 41 min agoNeither snow, nor sleet, nor icy boulders could stop Adrenaline Climbing's A-Team from holding their Boat Rock Climb-a-Thon on January 9th. Ahem, we just had to move it indoors, that's all (at the Adrenaline Gym in Suwanee-north Atlanta). To help "Float the Boat" our youth climbing team, made up of climbers ages 8 to 17, climbed as many boulder problems and routes at Adrenaline Climbing as they could in 4 hours.
Message from the SCC President
4 hours 41 min agoRecently, I have taken the position as President of the Southeastern Climbers Coalition, and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Paul Morley and I am a climber. It is what I do, what keeps me sane, and what I live for. Climbing has been a very integral part of my life that has simply given me much of the experiences in life that I appreciate today. For the past four years, I have been a Board Member for the SCC which has provided me a medium of giving back to the community for a life that has given me much. At some point, the importance of access and community was something that was made brilliantly clear. Giving back was something that I knew was a responsibility.
Boat Rock Comp 2010 Finally Happens
4 hours 41 min agoThey say that the third times a charm. That's what it took to pull of the Boat Rock bouldering comp on Saturday, January 23rd of 2010. The 8th Annual Boat Rock comp sponsored by High Country - finally went off under foggy dew drenched skies.

End of a Banner Year for the SCC - Help Us Continue
Tue, 02/23/2010 - 3:00pmIts the end of the year and a ton has been accomplished with preserving climbing access in the SouthEast. 2009 has been our best year ever, most notably with the purchase and opening of Yellow Bluff and Steele in Alabama. These previously closed crags are now open for climbers to enjoy and... are owned and managed by climbers. We make the decisions and control our own destiny as we now own these crags forever.

Sat, 01/09/2010 - 1:00pmFriday night at Horse Pens 40 brought the threat of substantial rain. The hope among the hardy early comers (myself included) was that it would hold off until we went to sleep. Our wish was granted and despite some howling wind we all made it through the night.
Jimmy Webb Interview
Thu, 12/31/2009 - 9:00amFrom Luis Rodriquez - Jimmy Webb is undoubtedly the strongest climber in the Southeast today. He follows a long line of brutally strong, yet humble southern climbers who speak softly yet carry a whopping big club of power. Unlike most of the southern powerhouses that preceded him, Jimmy Webb is going beyond the local boulderfields and crags to compete with the United State's strongest climbers on the national level competitions. And competing he is: with a 7th place finish at the 2009 Gravity Brawl in NJ and a 4th place finish at the Mammut Bouldering Championships in SLC, he's competing against such notoriously strong climbers as Daniel Woods, Dave Graham, Sharma, Paul Robinson, Vasya Vorotnikov, and Rob D'anistasio. Where did this kid from, who is he and, more importantly, how and why does he do it? Read on...
