Preserving, protecting, and expanding your climbing opportunities

Trip Report: ‎2012 Carolina Climbers’ Coalition Jocassee Gorges’ Trail Day: 3/24/12

Stewardship, Slack Lines, and Moonshine...

South Carolina certainly has its own bit of Appalachia and climber volunteers lent a hand to improve conditions on multi use trails as well as remove an impressive amount of trailhead trash. Fishing, hunting and/or bouldering will certainly be easier for those traveling down and around Little Eastatoee River and the huge pile of trash (tires, TVs, commodes, etc.) below the Palmetto Trail parking area on SC 178 is now gone.

LET'S DO THIS! South Carolina Jocassee Gorges Bouldering Trail Day (March 24th, 2012)

We are still on people! Half day of service, half day of bouldering, and an evening of fun!

2012 Peregrine Closures for Moore’s Wall

This year’s peregrine closures for Moore’s Wall went into effect February 6, 2012. According to Hanging Rock State Park officials, the North End of Moore’s wall will be closed to climbing, pending observations as to whether peregrine falcons nest there this season. If nesting occurs the North End will remain closed until the young birds leave their nest (this typically occurs any time from June to August). If the park service determines that no nesting has occurred by mid-spring the North End will re-open to climbing.

Inaugural meeting of the Friends of Chimney Rock State Park

The CCC has been informed by Superintendent Wallace that the Friends of Chimney Rock State Park will have their very first meeting on Thursday, March 1 from 6-8 PM at the Lake Lure Town Hall. We encourage all climbers in the area to make time to attend this meeting. Thursday will be a great time for us to turn out in force and remind the park as well as the local community that we are, after all, the root cause of CRSP's existence.

The town hall facility is at 2948 Memorial Highway, Lake Lure, NC.

SAVE THE DATE: March 24, 2012 South Carolina Jocassee Gorges' Mini Trail Day

Ever tire of Rumbling while the high country just got a foot of snow?  Well please consider a slightly further drive (30 min?) south to sample some stellar SC pebbles!

Jocassee Gorges' contain many fine gems that SC's Department of Natural Resources has given us access to!  In return we’re planning a “quick and dirty” trail day on some trails used by boulderers.

Saturday, March 24, 2012 (8:30 AM to 1:00 PM)--meeting place to be announced.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday will be free for bouldering and Brad Caldwell (CCC’s Phoenix Fire) can give us all the beta we need!  The bouldering photos in this set are actually from a Jocassee Gorges’ bouldering area!
