Since the site went up, we have asked for your input regarding projects that we should pursue. We appreciate the input that has been offerred and will be developing a strategic and prioritized list. The list will be prioritized based on feasibility of the projects listed (ie whether a given area is for sale, how much an area is being offered for, ect.).
Since December 08', we have been quietly investigating a number of the opportunities present on the list that is being made in the access topics forum under the topic: How We Doin'. As of Nov. 09', many of the projects listed have been pursued with no real success. This is due either to a lack of availability of mentioned properties, property restrictions, or overly inflated land prices. From the list that we began last year, one opportunity has stood out as feasible and obtainable.
How many folks are aware that a good number of the classic boulder problems located on the West Side of Rumbling Bald's bouldering area belong to a development company? Problems such as Redneck Riviera, the French Maid, Red Sleigh Down, the Lewis Lunge, 11:11, Run and Jump Problem and Shady Grove to name a few. Currently, access to these boulders is permitted by the development company until such a time that the lot containing these climbing resources is sold. If the property sold, at worst, a homesite could be placed on this lot. At best, there is a possibility of losing access to the climbing located within this area.
Attached are a series of maps showing a property for sale at Rumbling Bald Mountain. The first map details the location of the area in proximity to the main cliffline of Rumbling Bald. The property is higlighted in blue and the red lines on the map are adjacent property boundaries. The parcel of land that has been offerred to us was subdivided from the larger property in the previous map to include land that contains the boulders that could be protected from any land sale. The second map is a diagram showing the boudlers that fall within the parcel of land for sale. The third map is a detail of the parcel for sale from the GIS data from Rutherford County.
We have looked at this opportunity and compared it with others we have tried to pursue over the last year. This opportunity seems to be the most feasible with respect to others that are not currently feasible or for sale currently.
We would like your feed back on this opportunity.
