Fox Mountain Guides helps innaugurate new Corporate Affiliates Program
This summer the CCC has strengthened the relationship between the generous businesses who contribute to our mission by organizing a Corporate Affiliates Program. Numerous businesses have donated goods, services and made financial contributions to help us meet our fund raising goals. We would like to say thanks by helping to provide advertising through our website and the events we organize.
The program is similar to others in use by other organizations with the exception of our named levels. For companies and businesses who are interested in helping to support our mission, please click the Sponsors tab above. A PDF explaining the details of the program can also be downloaded off of the sponsors page.
Climbers Brew Success!
Sunday evening at the Carolina Brewery in downtown Carrboro, almost 30 climbers got together for the first ever Brewfest, organized by Brandon Hensinger of Ascents Adventure Consultants with generous support from Andrew and Luis of the Triangle Rock Club. Folks were treated to ample food and more beer than most could drink (well almost). Pat Goodman entertained folks with a wonderful multimedia presentation of his adventures in North Carolina, his most recent expedition to India and some awesome footage from a sailing expedition to the Bahamas. One of the best parts of the event was that it served as a wonderful opportunity to get folks together to meet as a community.
Laurel Knob Party Report
At Camp Merrie-Woode on Saturday, May 9th, CCC and Cashiers-area climbing enthusiasts celebrated the completion of CCC's Laurel Knob acquisition. Because of the generous support of the outdoor and rock climbing industry, as well as rock climbers the world over, the loans which made the initial purchase of Laurel Knob possible are now completely paid off. Climbers from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and elsewhere attended the party.
Looking Glass Outfitters and Brevard Rock Gym Raise $200 for CCC
At the May 2nd Lisa Rands Slideshow in Brevard, $200 dollars was raised for the CCC by Looking Glass Outfitters and Brevard Rock Gym. Drawing on her experience as one of the top female climbers in the world, Lisa put on an awesome show to a crowd of around 50 climbers. Ticket proceeds from the show went to CCC's climbing access efforts. Thanks to Looking Glass Outfitters and Brevard Rock Gym for the support!
Dixon School Road Boulders Opening Event Report
A warm spring day at Dixon School Road boulders marked another access success for Carolina climbers! On Saturday, April 25th, Crowder's Mountain State Park opened access to the Dixon School Road boulders (DSR) with an official opening of the new Boulders Access Area of the park. The opening marks the first officially designated bouldering area in the N.C. State Parks system. N.C. State Parks Director Lewis Ledford spoke at the event, along with Mike Leonard of the Conservation Fund, representatives from S.C. State Parks, and a founding volunteer from the Friends of Crowders Mountain group. CCC and Charlotte-area climber-volunteers were recognized for contributing the information kiosk to the new area by Crowder's Superintendent Larry Hyde.
