Dixie Rock Table raises a few bucks & members

The 20th annual Dixie Rock climbing comp (the longest running climbing comp in the US) was held on 4/24-4/25, 2009 in Chapel Hill, NC. The CCC table at the comp raised $65 in calendar sales and we got a few new member sign ups as well. There was a lot of support for the coalition among people that I spoke to and quite a few members dropped by to say hi. Thanks to everyone for their support and to the Dixie Rock folks for giving us some space.

A Night of Bouldering Raises $200 for CCC

This past Monday, the three-film showing 'A Night of Bouldering' at the Dragonfly Theater in Boone raised $200 for the CCC! An enthusiastic audience of more than a hundred folks helped raise the money with a gear raffle supported by Misty Mountain Threadworks, Parr Barr energy bars, and Footsloggers.

Tuesday April 7th, almost 90 people crowded the long hallway at the entrance to the Dragonfly theatre in Boone to see the Remier of Duston Chambers movie about the college climbing experience highlighting some of Boones strongest locals, Jon Glassberg and Nate Draughn.

Looking Glass Adopt a Crag Success

On Saturday, March 14th, a group of climbers completed the Looking Glass Adopt-A-Crag. Despite the cold and rainy conditions, Looking Glass Outfitters owner Phil Hoffman organized the successful effort.

To manage and reduce impacts on the resource, local climbers and a service-oriented group of students from Maine's Unity College worked on the trail and the high-use staging area at the base of Sundial Crack. The industrious group maintained waterbars along the trail and at the base of the cliff to reduce erosion. They also reinforced the staging area boundary, containing and preventing further impact below Sundial Crack.

A big thanks to the climbers who came out and helped!

A very big thanks to Looking Glass Outfitters, Phil and Jessica Hoffman, Access Fund and of course the fantastic group from Unity College in Maine!

Laurel Knob receives Tax exemption status from Jackson County

Laurel Knob has been granted tax exempt status!

Tax exemption is a much needed step to the long-term management of Laurel Knob by the CCC. This makes our organization exempt from property taxes owed yearly on Laurel Knob!  It allows the CCC to direct YOUR donations and support to further preserve, protect and expand your climbing opportunities!

A big thanks goes out to Nancy Jackson and Sean Cobourn for making this happen!

New Kiosk for Dixon School Rd. Area

Saturday January 17th, the CCC in cooperation with a great group of Charlotte locals, park superintendent, Larry Hyde and the lead maintenance tech, Doc installed a new kiosk that was provided by the CCC at the new trail/parking area for the "boulders area". This was a part of the work that needed to be accomplished before the park could officially open the area.

Jon Lane, Pascal Robert and Zachary graciously put forth their free time to help build a new kiosk for this area. Jon and Zach were also generous enough to give up an entire Saturday to help install this kiosk. We had a great group of Charlotte locals help us with the installation and a little bit of cleaning up around the boulderfield. Thanks so much to David, Donovan, Greg, Mike and many others who braved the cold to help us. Thanks so much, we appreciate your help and support.
