If you have made the hike up to the cliff line at Camp Hanes, you know that the current trail is steep, uneven and eroding in many places. We are working to fix this by having a new trail constructed by a professional trail crew from Round Rock Design. We will supplement their work with volunteer trail days.
The new trail will reduce the overall grade of the trail and add switchbacks and new sections, resulting in a less strenuous hike! It will also be much more sustainable and less prone to erosion, meaning that this is a trail that everyone can enjoy for a long time. In total, we're building 1.5 miles of 3-4 foot wide trail and stairs with a projected cost of $39,000.
We have already funded the initial half of the cost of the trail work via generous grants from REI and the American Alpine Club, but we need your help to fully fund the project. Your generous support will ensure that YMCA campers, climbers and anyone visiting Camp Hanes will be able to enjoy this fantastic new trail.
