Buffalo Creek Upper Boulders Access Celebration
Join the Town of Lake Lure and the Carolina Climbers Coalition for the grand opening of the Upper Boulders Trail in Buffalo Creek Park. This new 2 mile trail provides access to expanded bouldering and climbing opportunities in the park and features a creek with cascades and a summit view. Carolina Climbers Coalition will lead ground tours of the climbing routes and boulder problems throughout the hike. Appalachian Climbing School will have climbing routes set up for participants to attempt. The hike leads past creeks, wildflowers, boulders, cliffs, and ends on a summit view. This event is part of a state-wide celebration of NC's Year of the Trail and is free of charge, thanks to the Town of Lake Lure, RHI Legacy Foundation, and Rutherford County TDA!
Schedule:
9:30: Meet at the Buffalo Creek Parking Lot for some Year of the Trail giveaways and for the ribbon cutting of the newly built Upper Boulders Trail.
10:00-3:00: Hike the new trail with trail builders of the CCC. Expect a 5 mile hike car to car with nearly 800 feet of elevation gain. Climbers will also give a 'ground tour' of the problems and climbing routes found along the trail.
11:00-2:30: Guided rock climbs will be set up on the cliffs about 1.5 miles into the new trail. These guided rock climbs will be available for all registered participants to try. Appalachian Climbing School will provide climbing instruction and climbing equipment.
