So far, in 2019 we have documented 2,300 hours of stewardship work, conducted by over 400 volunteers on various climbing lands in NC, SC, and VA. August was one of our most productive months to date thanks to these volunteers; take a look: Thanks to a grant from the National Forest Foundation, CCC volunteers have been able to rehab The Nose Trail of Looking Glass Rock. What was once an eroded gully now has over 70 steps and 15+ water drainage structures. Stay tuned for more Looking Glass based trail work into 2020, thanks to additional support from Transylvania County Tourism.
CCC volunteers have begun building the extension to the Tunnel Trail at Eagle Rock. This new trail extension leads to some of the best climbs at Eagle Rock. Special thanks to grant support from REI. We will have more trail days here throughout the fall.
The CCC, in partnership with the Access Fund, has been an active part of the Pisgah Nantahala Partnership, which informs years of planning for the forest’s comprehensive plan. Fixed anchor and erosion mitigation has been our focus. With climbers having a seat at the planning table, our future looks bright.
Hidden Valley bolt replacement weekend went incredibly well. 106 rusted time bombs were replaced by stainless steel glue ins and five piece anchors. Eagle Rock bolt replacement has continued as well. We are at nearly 400 bolts replaced this year across our areas! Thank you volunteers!
Powered by Misty Mountain Threadworks, CCC volunteers are working with BRP officials and Wild South to remove approximately 100 graffiti tags on boulders and cliffs in the high country region. Beacon Heights, Stack Rock, Fight Rock, Ominous Roof are just a few of the areas we are cleaning up. Thank you Misty!
Inner Peaks membership drive and Break the Nose competition in Charlotte was a huge success. The multi month event raised over $5000 for the stewardship and access. Thank you Inner Peaks!
Wild Craft Eatery in Boone, NC held a music festival and fundraiser, raising $400 for Buckeye Knob. Thank you to all who attended and donated!
We just heard that the Access Fund has awarded us $1200 for a trail machine course, where CCC trail leaders will learn to use mechanized trail equipment. This will be especially helpful building new trail to a hopeful new cliff in Table Rock State Park! Additional thanks to CCC and AAC volunteers who suffered two hot weekends in Aug/ Sept clearing the Table Rock Trails for climbing access!
Thank you active CCC members! We have 595 current CCC members. Please check your membership status and/or tell your friends to join here: www.carolinaclimbers.org/join.
