Chimney Rock Village Boulders: New Access Confirmed! CCC signs a lease to build a new trail to new boulders in the Village of Chimney Rock near the Village at the base of Round Top Mountain! Since earlier this year, we have been working with the Village of Chimney Rock and the Chimney Rock Fire Department on a recreational trail easement to access a small cluster of boulders. Easements have been signed and delivered, and we have begun the trail work. Special thanks to volunteers who have come out so far to help with the trail build. If you are interested in helping build this trail and new climbing resource, please coordinate with mreardon@carolinaclimbers.org. The climbing resource may yield 50-100 problems on various boulders on Chimney Rock Village land. We are able to focus on new access acquisitions like this thanks to the support of REI, who has granted us a 2020 grant for us to focus on climbing acquisitions. Big thanks to volunteer Dan VanBrocklin who has already put in at least a week's worth of volunteer work on the trail! Eagle Rock Access Update: Starting now, the gate that accesses Eagle Rock parking will not be locked. You will not need a parking pass. Chimney Rock State Park is opening the gate as a trial run. Please park responsibly and do not back up into the neighborhood. Asheboro Access Update: The land is about to change hands at Asheboro but we are working diligently with the new land owner to maintain access. If you go to Asheboro please be diligent in LNT (this includes chalk), leave dogs at home, and be sure your annual CCC membership is up to date. We hope to maintain this access into the future but it is never a guarantee. Using the space responsibility greatly improves our chances of continued access.
CCC Renews Lease for Sauratown: This month, the CCC sent our annual $5,000 to YMCA Camp Hanes to renew our annual lease for climbing at Sauratown. Our lease money sponsors an underprivileged camper each year. The season opens Dec. 1. Thank you Camp Hanes and thank you CCC supporters! Survey Results: Thank you to the 272 people who filled our survey to help inform our strategic plan. We love hearing from YOU about ways we can coordinate our efforts on expanding access and stewardship to the areas we serve. We hope to have a strategic plan by 2021. Special thanks to Doc Klein from 12lifegivinghabits.com for the assistance with the plan! See images of our survey results here: https://www.facebook.com/carolinaclimberscoalition Piedmont Trail Tool Kit: Lead by our area rep AJ Jackson, the Piedmont region is now getting a new tool kit for trail work and erosion mitigation projects! Raffle to SAVE BUCKEYE KNOB: Thanks to our friends at La Sportiva and the Riveter, we have another fun raffle coming up. Donate any amount to the Buckeye Knob payoff between now and Giving Tuesday (Dec 1) and you will be entered to win a pair of La Sportivas or a 5 punch pass to the Riveter NC. Also, the CCC will match your donation towards the Buckeye payoff loan, meaning if you donate $50, $100 will be sent to payoff our loan. We have $16,000 left on our Buckeye Knob payoff. The deadline for pay off is March 2021.
