Just two months ago, we started our CCC Crag Stewards program where we could connect local climbers with land managers to properly service climbing based and stewardship based needs at various climbing areas. The program has kicked off some great things and here are just a few of the highlights from the past two months: -B.R.A.G. founder and Melrose Mountain Steward Jonathan Gerst met with parking lot owners and the Town of Tryon to establish improved parking alignment. Jonathan is leading a trail day May 15 at 9:00 at Melrose. Join us! -Big Rock CCC Stewards have begun stone steps building in eroded areas and Wes Cooler of Naturaland Trust teamed with Pisgah Mountain Builders and CCC rep Adam Johnson to install kiosk. -Stone Mountain CCC Stewards have taken inventory of needs at Stone Mountain State Park -Pilot Mountain CCC Steward Bryce Mahoney held several volunteer trail days and a volunteer BBQ. See below. -Beacon Heights graffiti was removed by CCC board members and Blue Ridge Parkway officials -Cooks Wall has been getting steady bolt replacement and corridor clearing thanks to CCC Steward Shelley Carter -CCC Steward Bryan Townsend and family cleared Dixon Boulders of trash -Laurel Knob peregrine signage has been in installed and peregrine monitoring is ongoing -McKinney Gap trail alignment has been planned by several CCC Crag Stewards, to be installed by volunteers and C4 Team this summer! |
