SC Climbers Festival ReCap: Food for Adventures kicked off the festival with beignets and coffee at the Big Rock parking lot. Fox Mountain Guides, Pisgah Climbing and Outdoor Guides, NC Outdoor Adventures, and American Alpine Club Atl Chapter kicked off the clinics while dozens of climbers shared ropes and crash pads. Life long skills were built and good times were shared. The evening fire was roaring at camp beside the Eastatoe River. Burly Bills BBQ, Silos Brewing, Food For Adventures stew, and Brad Caldwell’s mead were great PM refreshers. Brad gave a slide show and Stephen Scoff saved his for next year. The raffle was filled with items from Misty Mountain, Scarpa, Climb@Blue Ridge, Project Rock, Blue Water Ropes, Block Haven, and more was off the charts as well thanks to our sponsors! In total, we raised $2850. The majority of this has been sent to Naturaland Trust so that they can pave the parking lot entry at Big Rock. Rumble 2022:
Wheels are starting to be put into motion. We are looking at the first or second week in March. Stay tuned! Post-fire Pilot Mountain Updates:
CCC board members AJ Jackson and Bryce Mahoney were able to inspect the climbing areas at Pilot Mountain. The good news is, there was little damage to the climbing areas. Trail days will be back on schedule coming soon! Asheboro Updates:
Our access partners, the Conservation Fund, have been incredible to work with in regards to maintaining climbing access at Asheboro. There has been an illegal hunting blind set up, which should be removed promptly. An old cabin will also be removed shortly by the Conservation Fund. Please remember to fill out your Asheboro waiver annually (we will have 2022 set up soon), leave dogs at home, and keep your CCC membership current!
Thank you Black Dome:
We had our Night at the Museum at the beginning of December. Thank you Black Dome for hosting and thank you Rab, Pisgah Climbing Guides, Ground Up Collective, Gregory Packs, La Sportiva, Lowa, Outdoor Research, Wild Country, and more for helping our raffle and silent auction! The Carolina Climbers Museum has digitized the Thomas Kelley 3rd edition. Check it out, here!
CCC Store: Thanks to Crag Life, we now have a CCC store. We currently have one design offered but are working on several others. 50% of the profits of these purchases go to the CCC.
Melrose Updates:
Big thanks to Jonathan Gerst, Mountain Waters Inc, and the Town of Tryon for the improvements on the Melrose Mountain Climbing area parking lot!
