REI Asheville announces a $6000 grant towards our access and stewardship efforts. REI is one of our most continued supporters throughout the years and this grant will largely be put towards our C4 Trail team efforts. Come join us April 9 at Weaver Knob Boulders in Burnsville to celebrate! Ukrainian Humanitarian Efforts: We are asking the climbing community to help us in direct support of the Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing of Ukraine (FAIS) and the people of Ukraine. From today until March 18, you can donate or bring in supplies to drop off points that we have set up across the Carolinas. More details here
Carolina Climbing Museum: Inside Black Dome Mountain Sports in Asheville lives a wonderful collection of Carolina Climbing history. You can view some of these items from home, including digitized versions of old and out of print guidebooks from 1972-1995 and several climbing history films directed by climbing pioneer Mike Fischesser!
Will Leverette, long time Carolina climber and paddler, was diagnosed with MS about 30 years ago, and has managed to provide his own care up until very recently. He is now in need of home care and in need of funding to help. Will has recently helped with organizing the Carolina Climbing Museum and Paddling Museum inside Black Dome. Please share and give if you are able.
Joshua Tree and Wilderness Fixed Anchors: We are including this in our newsletter not only because it is extremely important for the future of climbing at Joshua Tree, but it is also precedent-setting for our own Wilderness climbing areas like Linville Gorge. Speak up now using Access Fund’s letter writing tool kit. Sunday is the last day.
Peregrine Closures: Keep up to date on the full details of closures, and our peregrine falcon work on our peregrine landing page, here.
