Come join us at the Hound Ears leg of the Triple Crown Bouldering series! Hound Ears is a beautiful boulder field near Grandfather Mountain that is only open to your climbing enjoyment one day out of the year for the competition, and Oct 1 is the day! The night before the competition, Sept. 30 at 7:30PM, is the CCC annual public meeting at the Grandfather Campground, AKA the festival center for Hound Ears. Anyone is invited! We hope to have give some updates on access in our region, and hear from you.  A portion of proceeds of this year’s Triple Crown events will be going towards our Maibauer Boulders, Love Valley purchase! Register today and not only join the competitive goodness, but you will also be helping secure access to an amazing boulder field in Love Valley, NC.

Climbers need a place to park and the Access Fund knows it! We are thrilled and humbled to receive a $5000 grant from Access Fund to help us build the Maibauer parking lot to serve access to this area. The Maibauer boulders have been newly purchased by CCC via an Access Fund loan. Learn more about the area on our website or come check it out on one of our upcoming volunteer days Sept 22-24, Oct 13-14, and Nov 3-4.

We have gotten approval and have begun work on a new trail build to a newly uncovered set of boulders and mini cliffs within the Town of Lake Lure’s Buffalo Creek Park. We have several volunteer days planned and have beta on our website. Once it cools down a bit, this area will be another great alternative to Rumbling Bald, with approximately 200 problems and maybe 20 roped routes on excellent henderson gneiss. Come on out and dig trail or put up FAs! Please record them on the google doc here. The CCC is excited to grow our team with a Marketing & Events Director. This position supports the mission of the CCC by promoting its programs and initiatives to a diverse and growing audience. This position takes primary responsibility in managing CCC presence within the community, developing the CCC’s brand, managing the creation of high quality media and marketing content, and cultivating the growth of our online and in-person presence.

Cultivate Climbing Event 

Congratulations, Cultivate Climbing, on the re-opening of the former Climbmax Climbing in Asheville, NC. Thank you for having us at your re-opening and donating many great items for a CCC raffle. In total, we gained 30 CCC members, raised some funds for access and stewardship, and had a great time with the Cultivate community.
