Amphitheater Trail Project Begins in Linville Gorge

Climbers are lucky to share landscapes with rare and sensitive species, and Linville Gorge holds more than its share of them. This July marked the start of work on the Amphitheater Trail, a project that will unfold over several seasons and run through summer 2028. The current phase involves partnering with biologists and trail specialists to finalize a trail alignment that steers clear of sensitive plant life in the Gorge.

We're grateful to the Grandfather District of USFS, Wild South, Conservation Corps North Carolina, and Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards for their contributions to the project so far.

One note for anyone climbing at the Amphitheater: if you spot flagging tape out there, it's part of ongoing alignment work; a temporary but necessary step in the process, not a sign anything's wrong.
