Winter Volunteer Opportunities at Lower Ghost Town

Want to get outside, give back, and help build sustainable climbing access at Ghost Town? We have two great ways to get involved this winter: weekday trail work with C4 and weekend stewardship days with the Access Fund Conservation Team.


Weekday Trail Work with C4

Work alongside the C4 Team during the week to improve long-term, sustainable access at Lower Ghost Town.

Dates: January 7 – April 1
Days/Times: Tuesdays–Thursdays, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Meeting Location: Chimney Rock Village Public Parking Lot (432 Main St, Chimney Rock, NC 28746)

Work includes

  • Bench-cutting and corridor clearing
  • Building stone steps and locust log trail features
  • Improving long-term sustainable access

What to expect

  • A 0.5–1 mile uphill hike to work zones
  • Physically challenging but rewarding trail work
  • Tools and PPE provided

What to bring

  • Sturdy footwear
  • Water
  • Layers

Adopt-a-Crag Stewardship Days at Lower Ghost Town

Join the Access Fund Conservation Team and the Carolina Climbers’ Coalition for Adopt-a-Crag volunteer stewardship days at Lower Ghost Town.

Dates: Saturdays, January 17 – February 28
Time: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
Meeting Location: Chimney Rock Village Public Parking Lot (432 Main St, Chimney Rock, NC 28746)

What you’ll do

Volunteers will help create new, sustainable access to the crag through trail building, corridor clearing, and installation of trail features. Expect a rewarding challenge and a 0.5–1 mile uphill hike to work zones.

What to bring

  • Closed-toe shoes (required)
  • Long sleeves and pants (recommended)
  • Water, snacks, and layers

Be prepared for

  • Lifting 50–100 lbs
  • Hiking on uneven terrain
  • Exposure to the elements
