Wildcat Rock Trail Restoration

When Hurricane Helene struck in 2024, a landslide wiped out roughly 100 feet of the Wildcat Rock Trail — the primary access route to the rock and ice climbing area at Little Bearwallow Falls. CCC's C4 Crew partnered with Conserving Carolina to bring the trail back stronger than before, completing nearly 500 hours of work across 62 crew days. The team constructed two stone staircases with approximately 20 steps, built multi-tiered retaining walls, and restored and armored the damaged trail section with improved drainage. Rocks were rigged uphill from below the worksite, drilled and split to size, and set with rebar for lasting stability. With help from volunteers with the Conserving Carolina Rock Crushers and American Conservation Experience, this restoration completes the final piece of the trail system. Conserving Carolina is now preparing to reopen to the public. Stay tuned for updates on reopening plans!
